Put A Poem in Your Pocket!

The fourth graders participated in Put A Poem in Your Pocket Day today!  We read poetry aloud and found some of our favorite poems on http://www.poets.org/ website.  This website gives you several options: you can choose a poet, choose a favorite poem, or you can read the biography of a poet.  Check it out!

First Grade Enjoys -- Skippyjon Jones!

The First Graders at Tanglewood enjoyed reading Skippyjon Jones books on Thursday.
Skippyjon Jones is a Siamese cat who wants to be a Chihuahua.  We are excited about our new iPads and apps in the library.  We purchased the Skippyjon Jones app to share with the students.

In the words of Skippyjon Jones using his very best Spanish accent,  "My ears are too beeg for my head.  My head ees too beeg for my body.  I am not a Siamese cat... I AM A CHIHUAHUA!" (from Skippyjon Jones by Judy Schachner)

For more Skippyjon Jones books, games and more go to his website at:  http://skippyjonjones.com/.

Writing Camp - Fourth Grade

Author Dr. Daphne Shaw (a Tanglewood parent and pediatrician) opened the Fourth Grade Writing Camp with ideas on how to be a writer!  She gave the students some great ideas on writing, using her own experience of writing the book, No Shots For Me.  Students left school to travel by bus to Arborlawn UMC for a day of writing, breaking into small groups with teachers.

This is my FUN spot!

This third grader LOVES to read.  This morning she was in the library before 8:00!

She gave me a huge "word-hug" when she said, "This is my FUN spot!  I just love the library.  May I reserve a space here and stay all day?"

Enthusiastic readers like this third grader make me smile - and they make me work really hard because I have to keep up with all the books these bright, smart, constantly-reading students are devouring!
